Unit 2 of Certificate of Professional Development in Work with Children and Young People develops practitioners' knowledge and understanding of the development and care of babies under one year. It considers in depth the overall needs of babies, with emphasis on the theory and current research that informs day to day practice. It also examines the roles and responsibilities of managers, supervisors and sole professional carers such as nannies and childminders.
On successful completion of this unit you will be able to:
• explain the theories relating to progression of overall development from birth to 1 year • analyse the role of professionals in identifying needs and promoting babies' development • examine how professionals can work together to meet babies' identified needs • describe organisational and individual good practice when working with babies • relate practice with babies to the themes and principles of the EYFS
